My latest album is live. Photos from North Bay, over the weekend.
It was my first session in a while, after a quiet summer. I travelled over with a friend, from York, early in the morning and we arrived at a local point at about 8ish. The point was a touch on the busy side, so we headed rounded to North Bay to check it out. It looked fun. My brother was at Cayton too, and told us that the tide wasn’t great - it was just closing out.
The swell was also a fair chunk smaller than forecast - and even that the wave bouys were reading. They were suggesting biggest waves around 10ft. They weren’t. We wondered aloud if there was a bit of west in the swell causing it to miss the coast… I’ve never bothered looking into it to see if this was right.
Excited to use my new lens and lens port combo (a telephoto lens) I managed to forget to pay for parking - I also forgot my squeegee that I use to clear water from the lens. 20 mins in I was forced to get out to sort both out. I was glad I did. Not just because I avoided my friend, Pete, getting a fine, but the squeegee made a huge difference on the telephoto lens. You can see how some of the early shots are a bit dazy. This is why.
I got out after shooting circa 500 shots and had almost exhausted my battery. I could have stayed longer, but a beachie wasn’t ideal for the lens/camera set up I was using. I was just getting smashed in the impact zone for an hour and a half.
After I got out I shot some photos form the land.
Despite surfing for going on two decades, I’ve barely touched North Bay - certainly not since I was a teenager, so it was nice to surf a different beach and see some different faces. Same for the land shots - I’ve never shot from the land there, so it was good to do something different.
A shot from before I had my squeegee in the water with me. Hence the blur.
My bro on a small, fun one.
Nice hack, looking down the beach.
Can’t beat a line up shot.
